Many clubs offer leadership rolls that help boost self-confidences and develop leadership qualities. Students are astonished at how becoming involved in organizing a group function can be a rewarding challenge.
Contrary to the popular belief that getting involved in a club can be overwhelming and may even hinder studies, participating in clubs actually tends to help students improve their grades. According to College Parents of America, “studies have shown that students who are active in campus activities, who do more than focus solely on their studies, are more engaged in the campus community and succeed more academically.” Therefore, getting involved in activities can help you with your studies and grades. Grace Chen writes in response to the Community College Survey (CCS) that “extracurricular campus activities can be seen as an extension of classroom learning.” She emphasizes that one of the best ways to get better grades in college is by “being social.”
Not only can joining an organization improve your grades but choosing the right club can help you choose a career path as well. Trident Tech offers many clubs that help you with your studies or specific skills. For example, The Photo Club is frequently involved in photography-based community events and service projects. The club recently hosted a photo shoot for photography students, had a painting with light project on March 30th, and they are planning a movie night featuring a movie about photography or photographers. There are so many clubs and organizations at Trident Tech to help you discover a new career path or help with the one you are currently on.
Finally, being a part of a college organization can be a great asset for your resume. With today’s highly competitive job market, extra-curricular activities may be just the edge you need on your resume to get hired. Being involved in a club that is related to your future occupation may help you get that dream job because it shows your future employer that you are motivated and that you have some experience in your field of work. Employers look for well-rounded individuals who are involved in their communities. Getting involved in a club or organization shows your future employer that you are serious about your field so much that you sought knowledge separate from your regular studies. Also, profession-oriented clubs can help you network yourself into that dream job. The more you are involved in the organization the better it looks on your resume. Holding officer positions or being on committees is very beneficial for you because it shows your employer that you are willing to take on a task and work with others to organize events.
So go out today and get involved with one of the many different clubs Trident Tech has to offer! If you are unsure where to begin, your advisor can help you in choosing a club that will benefit your studies and guide you on your career path. You can also check out the student activities page.
