Veterans Retraining Assistance Program

Do you know an unemployed veteran who needs a job? If so, then continue reading.

The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and the Department of Labor (DOL) are working together to roll out this new program on July 1, 2012.  The Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) offers 12 months of training assistance to Veterans who:

·      Are at least 35 but no more than 60 years old

·      Are unemployed

·      Received an other than dishonorable discharge

·      Are not be eligible for any other VA education benefit program (e.g. the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Assistance)

·      Are not receiving VA compensation due to being unemployed

·      Are not enrolled in a federal or state job training program

·      Enroll in a VA approved program offered by a community college or technical school

·      Enroll in a degree or certificate program that trains you for a high demand occupation

VRAP has a limit on the total number of participants. Only 99,000 unemployed Veterans will be selected for the Program.  DOL will offer employment assistance to every Veteran who participates or applies to the VRAP program.

Veterans may apply on line through the VA beginning 5/15/12.

How to Make the Most of the Spring Career Fair

Why attend the Spring Career Fair? To access approximately 100 employers in one location! The annual Spring Career Fair sponsored by Student Employment will be held on Wednesday, April 4th from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the College Center of building 920. This is one of the largest employer fairs in the area each year. All students and graduates should make an effort to attend if possible. Even if you are not presently looking for employment, you will be able to speak with company representatives to prepare yourself once you are in the market for a career. The fair is also open to the public.
