Tony Bennett: Duets II

By Taylor Hastings

Tony Bennett is one of the coolest cats of the past sixty years. As one of the most esteemed crooners, Bennett is as popular today as ever. Although he is one of the last singers of the greatest generation of music, he does what only Mr. Bennett could pull off at the age of 80.

His voice is fresh and untarnished; even after releasing 73 CD’s, including his latest release titled - Duets II. His familiar choice of swinging titles paired with popular current singers earns appreciation by music lovers of all genres. Country, gospel, pop, jazz and international artists recreate classics for a modern audience. Aretha Franklin, John Mayer, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood and Queen Latifah are just a handful of the seventeen artists selected by Bennett. Duets II is a powerhouse of talent.

One of its greatest highlights is the quintessential jazz song “Body and Soul”. Its longevity and significance is reinforced through the beautiful harmony created by the friendship of Bennett and the late Amy Winehouse.

The unique twists presented by Bennett and friends gives enough familiarity to those who enjoyed mid-century classics during their first incarnation and at the same time, offers relevant music to new listeners.
